My Fall To-Do List

{ Of course I'm immediately drawn to the charming blotchy pumpkin }

I've seen a few bloggers post "Fall To-Do Lists" so I thought I could join in.  Although I have to admit my usual to-do lists are chores or house projects so it was unnatural for me to come up with a 'fun' list.  After making my list though, I realize it is kind of fun to have a to-do list that has no responsibility attached to it.  Do you have any fun fall activities planned?  I'd love to hear!

1.  Visit a few more apple orchards.  We recently visited Schultz's Orchard in Mattawan and picked a bushel of Fuji apples and they were so delicious!  Fuji is by far my favorite apple, I eat 4-5 of these babies a week.  Since we're in the middle of a kitchen renovation, I'm not really feeling any apple creations so I ended up plowing through our apple bushel in two weeks and now I want more orchard apples.  Schultz's was my first time at an orchard as an adult and I'm hooked!  I think our next stop is Wiard's Orchard in Ypsilanti!

{ I'm LOVING the flannel prints this fall.  I've had this one forever from BDG but already purchased two more! }
{ I had to bust out the big guns for the apples at the top of the tree ;) }

2.  Eat more donuts from local cider mills and orchards.  I don't know what they put in these donuts but I just can't get over the chewy texture.  I could eat these All. Day. Long.

{ Zero trans fat is all they could come up with to market these...you don't need to bother, these donuts sell themselves }

3.  Find an apple cider donut recipe and make said donuts.  I always feel better about baked goods when I make them myself.  Something about knowing exactly what goes in just makes it better.  Also, this is why I will no longer participate in eating pecan pie.  So much corn syrup!

4.  Re-decorate mantel for Fall.  I'm thinking black geometric candles sticks/holder (this one is on clearance!), a 'gold' trimmed mirror and perhaps an amber-colored glass.  See our winter mantel here and spring mantel here.

5.  Make a trip to goodwill, the pile in the basement is starting to haunt me.  I had to throw a chore on my 'fun' list because I actually find it fun to get things done!

6.  Carve a pumpkin and bake the seeds.  Also I think I might pick up one of those hardy mum plants to keep our pumpkin company.  My grandmother's pup, Trixie, is modeling this one:

7.  Since I'm really going to decorate our porch a little this year before Halloween (I swear!) , we need to buy a functional candy dish for Halloween.  We had just gotten back from our honeymoon in France the day before Halloween last year and realized we only had straight up casserole dishes to serve in.  I need a lighter dish so we can pile on more candy, there are a ton of kids in our neighborhood and we ended up giving out leftover wedding favors by the end of the night!

8.  Dress up Jules for Halloween.  He got away scot-free last year but this year because we picked him up on November 1st.  This year, we've got this fitting costume on it's way in the mail for our little Monster...

9.  Make this simple apple bake again.  I wanted a 'crisp' but without all the work and calories and came up with this gem:

Cast Iron Apple Bake

2 apples
1/2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp Fustini's Pear Cinnamon Balsamic Vinegar (buy here)
1/2 packet of instant oatmeal
1 tsp brown sugar

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.  Peel, core and slice about 1/4' thick slices of apple.  Saute in a 8" cast iron pan with your coconut oil for about 3 minutes or until apples are started to get soft.  Add balsamic vinegar and toss, cook for about 2 minutes.  Sprinkle with oatmeal and sugar and bake for 10-15 minutes.  Serves two.

{ Fun fact:  I've recently learned that I have abnormally large feet and hands for a woman of my size, ha! }

10.  My final 'to-do' for this fall is to announce some big news happening in our family - Andy and I are expecting a baby boy to join the family in March!  He is due to arrive just two days after my 30th birthday and I can't think of a better birthday present than a sweet little birthday buddy :)

{ 16 weeks }

  3. Congrats on the baby news! How exciting?!

    Also love the cat costume... I have wanted to get our cat Arthur a shark one for a while now but I don't think he would let us put it on him without a fight. Would love to see some photos of Jules if you get him in costume :)

    1. Thank you! We are thrilled!

      I'll bet you can get Arthur in a costume, here's a tip - get a nice thick towel and his favorite treats, swaddle him and feed him treats until he stops fighting. Then scruff him and have someone help you get that costume on him. I swear they like ;) We got Jules' costume in the mail yesterday, I will be posting on Instagram so soon @charlielbl
