|The Dude, Lesli's other furry son :)|
With her other children off gallivanting around Puerto Rico, Andy and I invited our mama Lesli to lunch at Sava's to celebrate her for Mother's Day. We decided to wait until Tuesday rather than battle with the Mother's Day brunch crowds on May 10th.
Lesli is one of the most thoughtful, intelligent, energetic, positive, strong, creative and interesting people that I know. She is involved, supportive and understanding with a great sense of humor. I could keep going but I don't want to be too obnoxious! I obviously think she did a outstanding job raising her children since I married the handsome one and have been friends with the pretty one for years, but even with adult children she is still such a great mom. Now that I'm officially included as one of her children I get to experience first hand the mama Lesli experience :)
We rarely go to Sava's as a family so we thought we would treat her to a "new" spot for lunch. Sava's has been around for a few years but was recently renovated to be more modern and they revamped their menu to be more eclectic and bold. The restaurant isn't fancy by any means but it is a bright, open space with tall ceilings and they are kind of/trying to be edgy.
The serving sizes are on the smaller size and there were so many things we all wanted to try so we each ordered two delicious plates!
^^ Roasted Carrots with pistachios and housemade ricotta, there was a lemony punch to these babies, I don't think the ricotta was even required. They were great on their own. Pistachios were an unexpected addition but it was perfect!
^^ My favorite filler is the Four Greens salad with chickpeas, pickled red onion, diced cucumber and a surprisingly simple and flavorful preserved lemon vinaigrette
^^ Ahi Tuna Poke with avocado, scallions, cilantro, wakame, apple, toasted seame sees, lime and taro root chips. I ordered this the next day too because it was so good! This is perfect for a light lunch for one, mmmm!
^^ Sava's Greek Salad with a grilled salmon filet, which is basically the Four Greens salad, with kalamata olives, pepperoncini, tomatos, beets, feta, pita bread and Greek dressing.
^^ Turkey Burger for the hubs, with fig & balsamic jam, gruere, baby kale and sesame seed bun
^^ Mac & Cheese with smoked gouda, aged white cheddar and parmigiano reggiano, delish!
We celebrated with my dear sweet mother too, a few days before in West Michigan and got to spend some time with our youngest niece Maycee while we're at it, as seen on Instagram @charlielbl.
I'm working on blogging some recipes to share with you soon! I've been cooking a lot but it has been cold, dark and rainy in Michigan and that makes it tough to take a presentable photo ;)
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
